1993 Fiat Downtown

The 1993 Fiat Downtown was a prototype city car designed by Roberto Giolito and Chris Bangle and presented at the 1993 Turin Motor Show. It offered a 118-mile range at urban speeds. Fiat has always been best at small cars, but the Downtown never stood any chance of production thanks to buyers' skepticism.

A three-seat, electric-powered vehicle, the Downtown was fitted with wheel motors, sodium-sulfur batteries, and a range of 186 miles at 30mph, or a max speed of 62mph. The all aluminum structure (plus plastic panels) means the car's total weight is 700kg.
