Designed by Chris Chapman, the 1993 XU-1 from Isuzu was a sleekly styled, four-wheel-drive vehicle with gull-wing doors. Group B rally cars, rally-raiders, and the Citroen 2CV were all cited as influences by the designer of Isuzu’s 1993 VehiCross, Simon Cox. However, its styling looked almost like science and thought out. Its chunky shape impressed executives so much that a feasibility study was carried out, with amazingly little modification within three years (bypassing the similar-car). There are in store for a dreamy fellow off-roader created by Californian stylists, the Trooper-based XU-1.
