The 1995 Renault Initialen was unveiled at the eighth Paris Automobiles Classiques and Louis Vuitton competition in Paris. A clear expression of Renault's ambitions in the luxury car bracket and a sign of its intentions to return to the fundamental tenets of the French coach-building tradition - luxury and refinement, power with distinction. Initiale is first and foremost an elegant and original car underpinned by advanced technological development and innovative design.
The Initiale was a design study of a luxury car. Patrick Le Quement features:
"Passenger space treated like a living area, two lightning wells, four armchairs, panoramic glazed roof, central console for showing films and video clips on laserdisc, opening dashboard with controls for hi-fi system, air conditioning, driving aids and telephone, permanent all-wheel drive plus advanced braking and suspension systems."
Initiale is powered by a 3.5-liter V10 engine coupled with an automatic clutch and sequential six-speed gearbox.
The Initiale was developed for production and became the Renault Vel Satis, launched in 2002.
